James Edward Kohler, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on November 22, 2019 in Tyler, TX. He was born on September 23, 1937 in South Milwaukee, WI to Gilbert and Marion Kohler. Mr. Kohler was known in his hometown as a “Hot Rodder” and always had the passion of helping others. He was a very gifted mechanic and builder. His career consisted of working as a production supervisor with American Motors Corporation and other manufacturers. In 1978, he fulfilled his childhood dream and he moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Kohler moved and became a resident of Mount Vernon in 2002 to spend his retirement years. In his years of retirement, he became a Texas Master Gardner and dedicated his time helping with his church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joanne Kohler; second wife, Helen Hale Kohler; son, Ken Kohler; grandchildren Andy and Luke; brother, Karl Kohler and sister in law, Patricia Kohler.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are sons, Mark Kohler and wife Amy of Waco, TX, David Kohler and wife Lori of Ft. Worth, TX and Daniel Kohler and wife Lisa of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Kathy Wilson and husband Fred of Edmonds, WA; daughter in law, Nancy Kohler of Chesapeake, VA; step-sons, Jeffrey Hale and wife Sandra of Atlanta, TX; Danny Hale of Atlanta, TX and Patrick Hale and wife Ellen of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Tiffany Catherines and husband John, Jake Kohler and wife Jamie, Mikey Kohler, Bobby King and wife Isabel, Shira Szanto, Adam Wilson and wife Elena, Matthew Wilson, David Wilson, Amanda Kohler, Justin Kohler, Brandon Kohler, Benjamin Kohler, Nathan Kohler, Kyle Kohler and wife Carly and Craig Kohler and fiancé Angela; Step grandchildren, Stephen Hale, Katie Knudson and Laura Hale; 5 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; brother, Hank Kohler and wife Karen of Oak Creek, WI; sisters, Marion Carl and husband Allen, Betty Maier and Husband Dennis both of Oak Creek, WI; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, TX. In Lieu of flowers, family has requested donations to be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Alliance of NE TX, 211 Winchester Dr, Tyler, TX 75701 in his name.
Family has also requested that funeral attendees should feel free, if they desire, to wear bib overalls or flannel shirts which was Mr. Kohler’s typical attire.
