Opal Martin Jones, age 94, formerly of Fort Worth, Texas passed away at her home of the Jamestown Community on Monday, September 23, 2019 with her beloved family by her side. She was born on October 1, 1924 in Greenville, Texas to the late Cleve J. and Maudie Hyde Martin.
Opal loved reading, quilting, gardening, and genealogy. She was an active member of Jamestown Church of Christ.
Opal married TJ Jones on February 12, 1954 in Odessa, Texas. They were married for forty-four years. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son John Jones, Jr., brother Mack Martin and grandson Jacob Jones Barnard.
Opal is survived by her son Waylan Gillihan and wife Clark of Azle; two daughters Candy Rommell, and husband Jamie, of Mesquite; Joy Jones Barnard of Jamestown; Opal was the grandmother to: Adam Gillihan and wife Angela, Michael Gillihan and wife Sheryle, Merry Mahaffey, Douglas Rommell and wife Chessica, Christopher Barnard, and wife Melissa, and John Jones III. Many great and great-great grandchildren, and her dog, Buddy, was her loyal companion.
Funeral Services for Opal will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Presswood officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at 12:00. Burial will be at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
