Russell Schneider Obituary

Russell Lance Schneider was born December 25, 1968 in Mt Pleasant, TX to Peter Schneider, Jr of Fredericksburg, TX and the late Betty Sue Hughes Schneider. 
Russell attended Mt Vernon Independent School District and graduated with honors.  Russell attended Tarleton State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with minors in journalism and technical writing in the spring of 1991. He was honored as the outstanding graduate from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Russell was accepted into the journalism program at the University of North Texas and was awarded a grad assistantship. He finished his master's degree and graduated with a Master of journalism with a minor in English in December of 1992.
After graduation, Russell moved back to Mt. Vernon where he was a substitute teacher at MVISD.
Russell then was off to East Texas State University to work on his doctorate. Once again, Russell was fortunate to land a teaching assistantship. He taught basic writing classes while at ETSU. Russell only spent a year and a half at ETSU and moved with friends to Tucson, AZ in June of 1996.

In 2003, Russell returned to Texas and relocated to Austin in November 2003. There he worked in employee management for the Texas Youth Commission, Travis County juvenile Probation Department, Hospira, Inc and staff development and education program manager for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
Russell then moved to Shreveport and then Baton Rouge, LA where he worked as employee relations and training management consultant for the state casino industry.
Russell relocated to Galveston, TX and the moved back home to Mt Vernon in 2014.
Russell became involved in the community. He was elected to the Place 5 seat on the Mount Vernon City Council in May 2015.
In 2016, he was elected as president of the Franklin County Democrats. He volunteered with the Mount Vernon Main Street program, a member of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, and the Franklin County Historical Association. Russell was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon.
Russell accepted a position with Texas A&M Commerce as Career Development Specialist. He then changed positions to Communications Specialist, Marketing Communications where he would be able to use his master's degree in journalism. While at Texas A&M Commerce, Russell developed many friendships.
Memorial service will be held at Sam B Harvey Funeral Home in Mt Vernon, Texas at 11 am, Friday, June 21, 2019 with visitation 10-11 am at the funeral home before the service. Service will be conducted by Reverend John Hicks, Russell's cousin. Honorary pall bearers will be Jimmy Hughes, Joe Hughes, Richard Hughes, Jason Hughes, Mike Rader, Steven Rader, and Danny Bynum.
Russell is survived by his father, Peter Schneider, Jr, his aunt Ann Hughes Stevens, his aunt Jo Ann Hughes, his first cousins, Jimmy Hughes and wife Rita and their children Richard Hughes, Jason Hughes, Leslie Hughes James and their families; Janie Hughes Bynum and husband Danny and daughter Holly Bynum; Susan Holder Rader and husband Mike and their children Steven Rader and Sara Rader, and Joe Hughes, and a host of other cousins and friends in the community.
