Byron Lee Bass, age 71, passed away on March 3, 2020 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas at 2:00 P.M.
Byron Lee Bass, of Mt. Vernon, went to be with his Lord and Savior, and walk on streets of gold, Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Byron was born in St. Louis, MO., on July 2, 1948 to Joe and Nancy Taylor Bass. Much of his early childhood was spent in West Texas among oil and cotton fields, attending school through the I0th grade. In 1964, his family moved to Mt. Vernon, where he attended Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1966. While in high school, he played football, ran track, sang in the high school choir and had a major role in the Senior Play.
After graduation, he attended East Texas State University where he majored in professional chemistry and physics. While there, he met the love of his life, SuFran Lee. They graduated in 1970 and married six weeks later at the First Baptist Church of Caddo Mills on July 25, 1970.
Byron received a Master’s in Education in 1986 from ETSU. He was Involved in teaching and coaching for 30 years, using many unconventional and creative methods to help students understand scientific principles. You would often find his class in the parking lot or the football stadium working on physics concepts. Many students will tell you he made learning fun and had a great sense of humor to go along with his teaching. He carried a lot of these ideas into his coaching style too along with his teaching and coaching. Byron enjoyed singing. He and his wife, SuFran, served in church ministry involving music and youth for 40 years.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, SuFran; son, Blake Bass; daughter, Paige Bass; 4 grandchildren, Sky Blue, Jet, Gavin & Allura Bass; brothers and their spouses; Tim & Martha Bass, Brad & Jodi Bass; sisters and their spouses; Janeth & Jerry Ellis, Jerri Roemer, Jolene & Russell Beaty; one uncle and spouse; George & Gloria Bass; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
