In Loving Memory of
Charles "Charlie" McCain Caldwell
October 13, 1935 – October 14, 2025
Charles McCain Caldwell — lovingly known as Charlie, Dad, Gramps, Grandpa Charlie, and to some simply “Chop” — passed away peacefully at his home on October 14, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on October 13, 1935, in Nevada, Texas, Charlie lived a long, full, and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, and hard work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jennings Bryan Caldwell and Bertha Gray McCain Caldwell, and his brother, Billy Allan Caldwell.
After graduating high school, Charlie began working at American Clutch and Lec Electric. He was later drafted into the United States Army, proudly serving from 1958 to 1960. His service took him to Colorado, El Paso, and Germany, where he spent 14 months — notably during the same time Elvis Presley was stationed there.
Upon returning home, Charlie resumed his career, working for the Texas Aluminum Company and later Sherwin-Williams, where he dedicated 28 years before retiring in 1998.
In 1983, Charlie married the love of his life, Ruby Jean Borden. Together, they shared over four decades of unwavering love, laughter, and partnership. From 1983 to 2009, they made their home in Nevada, Texas. In 2009, they moved to Mt. Vernon, Texas, after inheriting a family farm from Ruby’s late father. They have resided there ever since.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Ruby Caldwell, of Mt. Vernon; his son Bryan Caldwell and wife Cindee of Winnsboro, Texas; his son Kevin Caldwell of Josephine, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
