Samuel Craig Harvey passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 67. He was born on February 5, 1953, in Mount Vernon, Texas, to Sam and Virginia Knight Harvey. He resided in Mount Vernon, TX.
Craig married Sherri Stinson on April 7, 1979. Craig graduated from Mount Vernon High school in 1971, Texas Christian University in 1975 with a bachelor in Business, and Dallas Mortuary school 1976. In 1977, he moved back to Mount Vernon to work along the side of his dad to run the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. He was a funeral director for thirty-seven years until he retired in 2014. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church Mount Vernon, during those years he served on several committees, including 5 years as church treasurer. Craig also served the community of Mount Vernon. He served on the Mount Vernon ISD school board for fifteen years, 3 years as president. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Franklin County Library board, Franklin County Hospital board, Industrial Foundation, Appraisal District board, Athletic Booster Club and the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association, Mt. Vernon Housing Authority board and Chamber of Commerce. In the last few months, he was volunteering at the Franklin County Food Bank. He served as President of the East Texas Funeral Directors Assoc and on the Texas Board of Funeral Directors. Craig loved the community and loved to serve the people of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Virginia Harvey of Mount Vernon.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sherri Harvey of Mount Vernon; Children, Craig and Brandie Craver; Samuel and Elizabeth Harvey; and Magen Harvey. Siblings, Scott Harvey; Holli and John Arnot. He is survived by six Grandchildren, Corbin Craver, Noah and Kendall Craver, Katelyn Craver, Virginia Harvey, and Stinson Harvey.
There will be a come and go Visitation Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the Sam B. Funeral Home from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm. The funeral services will be at 10:00 am on July 8, 2020, at the First Baptist Church Mount Vernon with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating followed by a Graveside at Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Pallbearers: Larry Scott, Kevin Long, Greg Carr, Warren Kastner, Joe Scally, and Joseph Kastner.
