Davey Jack Elliott passed away on February 9, 2022 due to complications from Pneumonia/COVID related issues in Longview, TX.
Dave was born in Paris, TX to R.V. and Ruth Elliott on January 23, 1948. He was a lifelong resident in Mt. Vernon, TX, but had many ties to McKinney where the Newsom Family had The Packing House. He attended high school in Mt. Vernon, TX and where he was known as “Mr. Mt. Vernon.” He was also known as “Zoom” after the license plate on his car, the first marine blue 1966 Chevelle SS396 in East Texas. He then attended college at East Texas State University in Commerce, TX where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. At the age of 19, Dave was drafted into the US Army to serve 3 years in Germany as a radio teletype repairman and specialized in computer programming.
Dave was married to Michelle Rost from Brazoria, TX and had 2 children, daughter Rachel, and son Daniel. Rachel and her husband, Cody Matkin, now lives in Mt. Pleasant, MI and have 3 living children Helena, Andrew, and Brandon and a granddaughter, Ella. Daniel and his girlfriend Katie live in Mt. Vernon, TX. Dave is also survived by his nephew, Miles. Miles and his wife, Stephanie, live in Richardson, TX and have 2 children Milah and Preston.
Dave worked for various companies and had many side jobs in Mt. Vernon until finding his career at Keller’s Creamery in Winnsboro, TX as a machine programmer and maintenance manager where he retired in 2014.
Dave was considered the “go to” man for anybody and everybody. He was the man you called for anything electrical or mechanical and was a mentor for many friends.
Davey was a free spirit who loved life, his family, and his many friends. Even though he loved to reminisce with his “stories”, he always looked forward to the future. He will be greatly missed.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ric and granddaughter, Suzanna.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, TX on Sunday, February 13, 2022. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the service will start at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Clint Davis officiating.
