David Michael Chaney, Jr., age 55 of Mt. Vernon, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2020, in Denton, Texas
David was born on March 18, 1965, in Coshocton, Ohio, to David Michael Chaney, Sr. and Charlotte Jane Emig Chaney. David’s family moved to Winfield, Texas in 1975 and then to Mount Vernon in 1985. He had just recently moved to Denton.
David loved sports and participated in the Special Olympics while attending school. He brought home the gold in track at the state competition in Austin while attending High School. He loved music, puzzles, playing board games and was a formidable Yahtzee player. He assembled and sold bird houses and bird feeders and was an excellent salesman.
David was preceded in death by his father, David Michael Chaney, Sr.
David is survived by his mother; sister, Suzanne Chaney of Dallas; sister, Margaret Green of Mount Vernon; honorary sister, Tonya Slaughter Woods of Mount Vernon; an aunt and uncle, Becky and John Emerson, of Coshocton, Ohio; 3 cousins: Steve Emerson (Debera) of Bedford, Joseph Emerson (Christi) of Temple, Jay Emerson (Laura) of Manassas, VA, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Franklin County Handicapable Rodeo, P.O. Box 501, Mount Vernon, Texas 75457.
