Dean Dunson Obituary

Visitation (come and go) at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home on May 1, 2020 from 11:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m.  Graveside following visitation at Mount Vernon City Cemetery.

Reba Ermadean "Dean" Dunson, age 90, passed away in McKinney, Texas on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.  Dean was born to Lester and Mona Pettus in Mansfield, Arkansas on July 31, 1929. She was the oldest of six children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis R. Dunson, of fifty-five years; they were married on March 8, 1952. They raised five children who have provided Dean and Lew with fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Because of the war, Dean had to help her mother raise her brothers and sisters which caused Dean not to graduate from high school. Some years later, she received her GED and took some accounting courses at Southern Methodist University. Dean became employed as an accountant for General Electrodynamics. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Tidelands Geophysical Company (TGC), to head up the accounting department. Retiring from the business world in 2000, she and Lew became “full-time” homeowners at Tall Tree community on Lake Cypress Springs in Mount Vernon, Texas.

Dean and Lew were dedicated members of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. Making many lifetime friends in St. Martha’s Circle, Dean served in St. Pius’s Ladies Society. For several years, she volunteered at the annual Christmas bazaar, worked many-a-booths at the yearly parish carnival, served at many pancake breakfasts, and even volunteered in the lunch line at St. Pius’s school cafeteria. Upon their arrival in Mount Vernon, Dean continued serving the Lord in a variety of ways at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dean was dedicated to her family--her family always came first. As previously mentioned, she was a mother most of her life - taking care of her siblings from an early age, then raising five children, and, finally, being a nursemaid to her husband for six years. Dean loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She kept her family very close because she was happiest when everyone was together.
