Dixie Stringfellow Obituary

Dixie Nell (York) Stringfellow passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025, at her home in Miro, Texas. She was born on a Tuesday, March 28, 1921, in Deport, Texas. The 4th child of Thomas Alfred and Josephine Cooper York. The family moved back to Johntown, Texas, when Dixie was about 2 years old, no matter how many places they lived, Johntown was always home. She attended grade school in Johntown and high school in Bogata. She started school early and made 2 grades in one year, so she was a senior at the age of 15.

Dixie became a member of the Church of Christ in June 1944.

Dixie married William Lee Stringfellow on December 26, 1936, at the age of 15 and he was 16, they were married by Bro. H.E. Duffie at his home. They divorced April 26,1954. They had 4 sons, Ronnie, Buddy, Jimmy and Wayne.

She later married George Monroe Rector on April 7, 1956, and had one daughter, Vicki. They later divorced.

She was preceded in death by her sons, William Ronald Stringfellow, Paul Lee (Buddy) Stringfellow and Jimmy York Stringfellow; her parents, Thomas Alfred and Josie York; brothers, Joe T. York, Kenneth Warren York and Paul Alfred York; sisters, Lucille Childers, Inez Greer, Edna Earl Dodd, Nadine Rhodes and Betty Pucket; grandson, Kevin Ray.

Dixie is survived by her son, Wayne Stringfellow and Claire Walpole; daughter, Vicki Nell Tabb and Dan Tabb; daughter in law, Debbie Stringfellow.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Johntown Missionary Baptist Church at 2 pm with Bro. Sean Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Bogata Cemetery.
