Dorothy May (Smith) Moore

Services for Dorothy Moore will be Saturday, February 15, 2020, 12:00 noon, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, TX.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Purley Cemetery.

Dorothy May Moore, age 96, of Florida, formerly of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020.

Dorothy was born on September 23, 1923 in Bend, Oregon to the late Percy Wiley Smith and Minnie May Alexander Smith.

Dorothy married Owen Cecil Moore on May 5, 1943 and they loved to spend as much time as possible with their family and friends. They loved to travel, camp out, and fish.

She loved Jesus, her family and friends and the great outdoors. Cooking was one of the things she loved to do until she couldn’t stand in front of a stove anymore.

She was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed going to Sunday School, attending church, and helping with church activities in any way she could. She moved to Florida and lived with her daughter, Sandra Newsome and her husband, Harold Newsome, after the death of her husband, Owen Cecil Moore.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Owen Cecil Moore, November 28, 2000.

She is survived by her son, Larry D. Moore and wife, Carla W. of Oak Point, Texas; daughter, Sandra Newsome and husband Harold of Cocoa, Florida; grandson, Andy Newsome; granddaughter, Jennifer Newsome; step granddaughters, Jo Ann Hughes and husband Bill Hughes, Heidi Porter and husband Wesley Porter, and grandson, Kris Massingill and wife Debbie Morales.
