Dorothy "Dot" Nelson

Dorothy Bell Nelson, age 91, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 in Quitman, Texas.  Dorothy was born on March 4, 1929 in Dallas, Texas to William Robert Mitchell Biggs and Willie Belle Ruble Biggs.  She married Damon Nelson on August 4, 1947 in Irving, TX.

There will be a come and go visitation on Monday, May 25, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.  A private family visitation time will be Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. followed by a private family graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating.

Dorothy (Dot) was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon and very active in her Bible Fellowship Class.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Damon of 56 years; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Statser and husband Butch of Quitman, TX, her son, Reggie Nelson and wife Georgia of Irving, TX; 6 grandchildren, Wendy Hayes and husband Craig, Tracy Bednarek, Jason Nelson, Jennifer Kamego and husband Steve, Sarah Statser, Samuel Statser and wife Sharon; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Kolenovsky of Arlington, TX, Jo Churchill of Houston, TX, and Miriam Spann and husband Max of Arlington, TX.
