Visitation for Eddie Gerald Turner will be on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m.. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Providence Cemetery.
Eddie Gerald Turner, age 85, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Eddie was born January 27, 1935 in Hopewell, Franklin County, Texas to Aubrey Turner and Maud “Lovelace” Turner. After high school, Eddie joined the United States Marine Corps and served over 23 years and retired as a Sergeant Major. During his marine career, Eddie served in Japan, Vietnam, Okinawa, and numerous places within the United States. He was Sergeant Major of Marine Barracks at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii when he retired September 1, 1976. Eddie met his wife, Sonia (Sunny) Cornell when he was a drill instructor at Parris Island, South Carolina. They were married in the chapel at Parris Island on May 1, 1956. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robbie (Pete); sister Audrey Sue Turner; and his son, Windle. Eddie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sonia Turner of Mount Vernon, TX; daughters, Carrie Turner of Mount Vernon, TX, Pam Smith and her husband Greg of Lititz, PA; 4 grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Natalie Turner White and her husband Bobby White, Blair Turner Davis and her husband Trenton, and Kelsey Turner Barnhard. He was blessed with 7 great grandchildren: Kayda, Aubrey, Christian, Zachary, Grayson, Caroline, and Holden.
