Evelyn Miller Palmer - November 3, 1935 – August 22, 2021

Evelyn Miller Palmer passed away peacefully at her home in Georgetown, TX on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the age of 85.  

Evelyn was born in Franklin County, TX on November 3, 1935 and was the 2nd of 7 children born to James Ira & Juanita Gafford Miller.  Evelyn graduated from Conway Sr. High School and studied at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. She was always an avid reader and had a passion for crime mystery novels. 

After moving to Austin, TX in 1964, she and her family soon joined Northwest Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served in many areas in the church.  Evelyn worked for the Austin Independent School District as a Personnel Assistant and Administrative Assistant and later retired from Eanes Independent School District in December 1995 as an Administrative Assistant. 

Evelyn married Alfred Paull Palmer II on September 3, 1992 in Bryan, TX.  They enjoyed many years of traveling to interview rising country music stars and contributing feature articles and photographs to Country Music USA Magazine.  They also enjoyed watching hours of football games as they followed their favorite teams to victory each week.    

After retirement, Evelyn enjoyed meeting friends for lunch at the 12:00 Club in Georgetown, visiting the Georgetown Public Library, shopping at Beall’s and going to the beauty salon.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Jim Miller and wife Pat, Gaylen Miller and wife Juanita, Mary Jo Miller Dawes and husband Bill and Larry Miller, her sister-in-law Clela Ruth McRorey Cheek and husband H.A. Cheek, her nephews Brock Crocker, Byron Cheek, Joey Bowers and Kelly “Corky” Dawes and her step-son Alfred Paull “Freddie” Palmer III.

Family members left to cherish Evelyn's memory are her husband of 28 years, Paull Palmer of Georgetown, TX, her daughter Lisa McRorey Zirkle and husband, Don of Florence, TX, and her son Douglas McRorey and wife Juliet of Katy, TX.  Grandchildren Dustin Zirkle and wife Tiffany, Sara McRorey and partner Jim Webb, Jared Zirkle and wife Natalie, Kevin McRorey and wife Alicia and Kelly McRorey Arguello and husband Matthew, her great-grandchildren Hagen Cavanaugh, Addison McRorey, Jack McRorey and Baby Boy Arguello, her sisters Paula Miller of Kemp, TX and Irene McCurry of Kemp, TX, her sister-in-law Linda Miller of Arthur City, TX, her very special aunt Virginia Gafford of Winnsboro, TX, her daughter-in-law Margaret McRorey of Schertz, TX, her step-daughter Virginia Palmer and numerous other loved family members and special friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.  Burial will be alongside her parents and family.
