Everett Vern Walter, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Tyler, Texas.
Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon on May 13, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pepper Puryear officiating. Pallbearers will be Dennis Martin, Abel Luna, Derick Caulkins, Andy Jones, Byron Irving, and Larry Scott. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Everett was born on March 22, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Esdmond F. and Nellie Miller Walter. He was raised in Spearfish, South Dakota. After graduating high school in 1964, he attended Black Hills State College and then entered military service in 1969.
Everett served in the United States Navy as a Shipfitter aboard the USS Myles C. Fox and received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze star. He was honorably discharged in 1973.
He married Linda Susan Caulkins on December 29, 1973, in Colleyville, Texas. They settled in Garland, Texas where he worked as a heavy machine mechanic and equipment operator until retiring in 2008. They moved to Lake Cypress in Mount Vernon, Texas in 2009. Everet was a big sports fan and attended all of Mount Vernon football games.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arnold and a sister, Evelyn.
Those left to forever cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Linda Walter of Mount Vernon; his brother, Leonard and wife Janet of Decatur Illinois; sister-in-law, Frances Walter of New Mexico; 12 nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church- Mount Vernon in Everet's memory.
