Garry David Nelson, 63, of Hagansport, TX passed away at his home on Monday,
February 15th, 2021. He was born April 16th, 1957 in Titus County, TX to the late, Dave M. and Lessie Bartlett Nelson. He was reared in Franklin County, Texas and graduated Mt. Vernon High School in 1976. He was a member and Deacon of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Hagansport, TX. He loved horseback riding, farming, and raising cattle with his beloved wife, Dinah and lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alexis Abla and brother, Milroy (Buddy) Nelson and niece, Joy Elizabeth (Abla) Cano.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 12 years, Dinah (Nichols) Nelson; two sisters, Bettie Jane Nelson and Veda Nelson of Hagansport; Nephews, Billy Michael (Mike) Abla, wife Leslie and family of Moore, Ok., Christopher Joel (Joe) Abla of Washington, Patrick Ross (Pat) Abla, wife Paula and family of Weatherford, Ok, Bo Hoover and his wife, Megan and family of Bonham, TX and David Wisdom of Hagansport, TX and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; Brothers-in-law, Charles E. and Jim Nichols of Mt. Pleasant, TX, sister-in-law, Linda Jane Nichols of Mt. Pleasant, TX, one Aunt, Omega (Bartlett) Smith of Dumas, TX and special cousins, Calvin Voluntine, Tommie (Voluntine) Griffith and Bill Bradford.
A private burial was held at Collier’s Chapel Cemetery.
A Memorial service will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hagansport, Texas with Brother Mark DeYong officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the memorial service.
