Gary Buck Obituary

Gary Max Buck, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away in Mount Pleasant, Texas on Saturday, April 25, 2020. He was born on September 14, 1941 in Scroggins, Texas.

Gary attended the country school at Springplace through 4th grade and then transferred to Winnsboro, Texas where he finished high school.  He attended Bish-Mash Institute in Longview, Texas for a year and attended some college classes when he worked in Dallas in 60 & 61. 

He worked for the Texas Highway Department in Mount Vernon while Interstate 30 was being constructed through Franklin County.  He was the City Inspector for the city of Mount Pleasant for about 3 years.   Gary was an office manager for Ark-La Gas Co. in Naples, Texas for the Naples-Omaha area for I0 years. He was a train operator with Texas Utilities at Monticello for about 15 years.  Along with his wife, he owned and operated GMB Trucking for 10 years.  While doing his day jobs, he was also a cattle rancher for over 40 years. Gary was a long-time member of the volunteer fire departments in Mount Vernon, Mount Pleasant and Naples.

Gary was a long-time member of the Church of Christ. His church family is at Blodgett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Buck and Allie Mae Ayers Buck.

Gary was a hardworking man who loved his wife and family.  His sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his delight.

Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years, Syble Parrish Buck of Mount Vernon, TX; 2 sons, Lanny Buck and wife Brenda of East Mountain, TX; James Buck and wife Susan of Mount Vernon, TX;  4 grandchildren, Colter Buck and wife Holly, Zack Buck and wife Jesi, Casie Buck and Cody Buck; 2 great grandchildren, Case Buck and Ellie Buck. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and wife Joe and Linda Parrish.

There will be a private family graveside service at Rockhill Cemetery in Franklin County.
