Gayla Henry Obituary

Gayla J. (Wood) Henry, age 68 of the Hagansport Community passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at her residence.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am on Saturday, February 7, 2026, and the Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00 am at the Hagansport Community Center.

Gayla was born to Wheeler Medford Wood and Ruby Aline Pynes Wood on July 16, 1957, in Red River County, Texas.

She married Joe Allen Henry on February 26, 1982, in Titus County, Texas.

Gayla was a licensed vocational nurse working for many nursing homes and doctors in the area. Gayla did not meet a stranger.  She loved her community and serving others. She was a member of the Sulphur River Cowboy Church. She was a part of "The Coffee with Friends" group. Gayla was a big advocate for the Mount Vernon ISD Band, you could always find her at the games on Friday night, cheering for the Tigers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents, Wheeler and Ruby Wood; brother, Stanley M. Wood.

Gayla is survived by her son, Luke Henry; daughter, Monica Minter; granddaughter, Vancidee Jo Minter; sister, Wyvie O’Rear; numerous extended family members and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gayla's name to the Mount Vernon Tiger Band.
