George Earl Saxon, 76, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 28, 1950, in Little Hope, Texas, George was the son of Wilbur Rudean and Rosa Lee (Thomas) Saxon. He graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1969 and went on to build a 48‑year career as a Rig Supervisor in the oil field, where he was known for his steady leadership and strong work ethic.
George married the love of his life, Jeanne L. Hammond, on August 3, 1973. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and simple joys. He loved taking his grandchildren fishing and camping and attending all of their events and activities. Being outdoors brought him peace, and sharing those moments with his family brought him joy.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne Saxon; his children, Marie (Paul) Edge and Jason (Jaime) Saxon; grandchildren, Danielle Saxon and fiancé, Jared McNutt, Hunter Saxon, and Samantha Edge; brothers, Glen (Carolyn) Saxon and Kenny Saxon; sister, Shirley (Roger) Smith; sisters‑in‑law, Julie Campos, Janis Lewis, June (Terry) Malone, and Jeanette (Brady) Martin; brothers‑in‑law, John (Debby) Hammond Jr. and Jerry (Linda) Hammond; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Rosa Saxon; sister, Charlotte Hack; brothers, Wilbur Saxon Jr. and Hershall Saxon; sister‑in‑law, JoAnn Gibson; parents‑in‑law, John and Mary Hammond; and brother‑in‑law, James Hammond.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. with Terry Malone officiating. Burial will take place at Glade Springs Cemetery.
