George was born on November 11, 1935 in the Hopewell community of Franklin County, Texas to D.W. and Mattie (Scroggins) Turner. He married JoAnn Sides on February 1, 1957 in Franklin County.
He worked 43 years as a barber and enjoyed working the cattle on the farm. George owned and operated Mount Vernon Fitness for 10 years. When his girls were teenagers, he loved taking them to rodeos and then later continued that tradition with his granddaughters. George never missed a rodeo and had a great time at them. He was the grandchildren’s biggest fan with their involvements in cheerleading, band, football, and basketball games. It did not matter which sport they were playing, he supported them all and he was a huge Mount Vernon Tiger fan as well. George was in charge of rocking the babies to sleep and at times he could do them all at once as they filled his lap. He was loved and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D.W. and Mattie Turner, and his stepfather, Clarence Turner; Sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Fred Hunnicutt; nephew, Bob Hunnicutt; brother, Bud and Lynetta Turner and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Winnie Sides.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, JoAnn Turner; daughters and their spouses, Karen and Dale Bennett and Terrie and Ace Park. Grandchildren, Amy (Terry) Fowler, Nick (Courtney) Darden and Lauren (Jarred) Mormon and 4 great grandchildren, Reagan Fowler, Kase Mormon, Presley Darden, and Penny Darden.
