Harold C. Shelton, Jr., age 86 of Mt. Vernon, Texas passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022. He was born on June 9, 1935 to Harold C. Shelton, Sr. and Matilda (Rackers) Shelton in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
Harold married Judith Ann Kendall on June 3, 1988 in Dallas, Texas. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from October 14, 1953-October 13, 1961. During this time, he fought in the Korean War. Harold and Judy have been in the Mt. Vernon community since 1998. He worked as the Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, Texas for 17 years. Harold worked in Dallas for 27 years as the Director of Music for the St. Patrick Catholic Church and he also worked as an accountant. Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended church at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. He was a musician, organist, and a soloist. A member of the VFW and the American Legion of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Steve and Tom Shelton; sister, and Dorothy Fennewald.
Harold is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy Shelton of Mt. Vernon, TX; son, Mike Shelton of Ardmore, OK; Daughters, Nancy Lilly of Greenville, TX and Amy Maple and husband, Dan of North Carolina. 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
