Harold Strother Obituary

Harold Glyn Strother passed away in his Mt. Vernon home the morning of July 31, 2021.

At the time of his death, he was playing his favorite game of Solitaire on the computer. Glyn was born March 18, 1941, in Oakdale, Louisiana, to Curtis and Dovie Strother. Glyn was raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Mt. Auburn Elementary, J. L. Long and Woodrow Wilson High School. He went to Texas A&M and graduated from SMU. Glyn met and then married Marsha Gail Mackey on September 29, 1962.

On October 28, 1966, Curtis Scott was born and changed Glyn's life forever. He spent many years coaching Scott in football, basketball and baseball and competed in tournaments in each all over the county. They both enjoyed their time spent together and look back on it with fond memories.

Glyn worked at Braniff and Trailways before striking out on his own forming Ace Limousine Service. His son would soon join him and they worked together to build a reputable company. He enjoyed transporting folks around the Dallas area. He accumulated a book full of celebrity autographs and stories to tell about many.

In January 2000, Glyn and Marsha retired to live full time at Lake Cypress Springs and the following year built a home on 65 acres of land just outside of Mt. Vernon, TX. Glyn became a rancher and hay producer, and once again including Scott in the venture. They worked together managing cows and producing hay. Scott leaning toward Black Angus and Glyn's Louisiana background was partial to Brahman. In fact, he monitored his Red Brahman Bull, Jericho and Hereford Cows daily. He always said they reminded him of his grandfather, Ernest Strother who raised Brahman cattle himself.

Glyn's favorite pastime was watching old western movies. His personal hero was John Wayne.

Glyn is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marsha Strother of Mt. Vernon; his son, Scott and his wife Julie of Greenville, TX; his Grandchildren, Samantha and husband, Michael Flaig; Samuel Strother and his Great Grandson, Zeppelin Flaig; siblings Jean Lowe and Ken Strother.

A memorial service will be at a later date.
