J. D. Esclavon, age 100, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025.
He was born to Sam and Willie B. (Vanderwater) Esclavon on September 28, 1924, in Beaumont, Texas.
J.D. joined the Navy at 17 and was a WWII veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post #243. After the war, he was a fireman at Camp Wallace in Texas, worked for Union Carbide in Texas City for 25 years, and owned and operated the Bel-Aire Motel in Canon City, Colorado for a further 30 years. He and his wife retired to Texas City and then to Mount Vernon. He was a member of Purley Baptist Church and several other Christian and Baptist churches during his lifetime.
He married Mary Julia Comeaux on May 21,1957, in Texas City, Texas. They were married 61 years until her passing in 2018.
He is survived by his four daughters; Joyce (Frank) Cardinal, Janie Esclavon, Annette Esclavon, and Jean (Gary) Lamborn; his grandchildren, Shala Anderson, Jacqui Lamborn, and Matthew Lamborn; his great grandchildren, Savannah (Kendall) Heath and Jack (Katalina) Anderson, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
J.D. is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, Sam and Willie Esclavon; his siblings, Hazel, Georgia, Eleanor, Nootsie, Lois, and Joe.
