Obituary for Jerry Wesley Jones

In Loving Memory of Jerry Wesley Jones
Jerry Wesley Jones was born in Choudrant, Louisiana, on September 19, 1944, and rose to be with our Lord and Savior on December 29, 2025. Throughout his life, Jerry's faith was a guiding light, shaping his character and actions. He made his home in Denison and Mount Vernon, Texas, where he was a devoted and active member of the Truth Church of Denison, consistently finding strength and fellowship within his church community.

Jerry graduated from Choudrant High School in 1960, and his commitment to service was further demonstrated through his time in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. While deployed in Vietnam, he embraced the opportunity to teach English to Vietnamese students, viewing it as both a duty and a calling to share kindness, understanding, and compassion—values rooted in his faith.  Jerry received various metals of honor and accolades for his service and commitment to his country.

Jerry earned a Master of Science in Education and dedicated 45 years to the education profession.  He retired from both the Ouachita Parish School System and the Denison Independent School District. Jerry’s unwavering commitment to education and community service was evident throughout his career.

Family and Faith
Jerry was a loving husband, father, “Pepaw”, son, brother, uncle and cousin whose devotion to his family was a reflection of his love and deep faith. He cherished his loved ones with a Christ-like kindness and was a steadfast pillar of support and encouragement, always striving to nurture and uplift those around him. Jerry’s commitment to his church community was unwavering; he found joy and strength in fellowship, serving others as an expression of his faith and love for God. His warmth and generosity were evident not only within his family and church, but also in his interactions with all individuals, as he consistently demonstrated compassion and respect. He exemplified the principles of his faith through his actions, serving as a friend to everyone he encountered.

Hobbies and Interest
Jerry cherished spending time with his family and loved ones. He also enjoyed being outdoors, appreciating landscapes, flowers, and all kinds of animals. Often Jerry is quoted as saying “Oh God, That is SOOO Beautiful”.  As a Master Gardener, Jerry found joy in nature. Some of his fondest memories were from a road trip to the Grand Canyon and a special trip to Yellowstone with his wife, son, and grandson. He especially treasured fishing with his grandson Alex and visiting Denison Dam to watch fishermen and the bald eagles fishing.  Jerry volunteered as a 4-H Leader for 17 years and a Boy Scout Troup Leader for 11 years.
