Jon Garrett Black

Jon Garrett Black, age 48, of Mt. Vernon, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his home with his loving wife by his side.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Troy Hollingsworth and Bro. Daniel Ledford officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Smith, Bobby Plowman, Jacob Corry, Eric Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Garrett Emery, Eric Emery, and Dalton Kitts. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Kahler, Mark Johnson and Lane Harris. Interment will be at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.

Jon was born on October 2, 1974, in Mt. Vernon, Texas, to Bobby and Barbara  Black. He attended school in Mt. Vernon. Jon married the love of his life, Stephanie Kahler, on December 8, 2007, in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of  Calvary Baptist Temple in Mt. Vernon. He enjoyed reading, riding his John Deere tractor and ATV 4 wheeling. Jon loved playing tablet games, playing spades with family and coloring by number games. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed his cats and he lovingly called them his kids.  Jon worked at O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Mt. Vernon for over 12 years. He was the assistant manager when he retired.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Black, granddaddy, Loyd Black, granddaddy, Charles Broach, grandmother, Stella Black and uncle, Michael Black.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Stephanie Black of Mt. Vernon, TX, mother, Barbara Black of Mt. Vernon, TX, grandmother, Peggy Broach, of Talco, TX, sister, Joey Emery and Lane Harris of Mt. Vernon, TX, aunt, Becky Johnson and husband, Mark of Talco, TX, aunt, Shirley McLeod and husband, Warren of Farmersville, TX, mother-in-law, Janice Pedersoli and husband, Frank of Winnsboro, TX, uncle-in-law, Ronnie Kahler of Mt. Vernon, TX, brother-in-law, Mike Kahler and wife, Kristan of Ore City, TX, brother-in-law, Mark Kahler and wife, Jennifer of Baytown, TX, niece, Summer Corry and husband, Jacob of Winnsboro, TX, nephew, Garrett Emery and fiancé, Paige Elia of Nacogdoches, TX, Sydney Emery and fiancé, Andrew Kernell of Nacogdoches, TX, nieces, Brooke Kahler, Chloe Kahler, and nephew, Caleb Kahler, great nieces, Avery Corry, Ava Corry, and great nephew, Jake Corry.
