Our wonderful mother passed away, at 90 years of age, on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Rae was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 14, 1933, to Esther Pearl Logsdon and Straud Raymond Carby. She moved from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, with her father, mother and sister, Thelma Jean, to Mount Vernon, Texas. While attending Mount Vernon High School, she met the love of her life, Billy Wayne Harper, and they married in 1952 and had seven children.
Rae was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to making sure everyone’s needs were met. She was so excited with the arrival of each and every grandchild and great-grandchild and loved them all so very much. She was always interested in how they were doing and displayed their pictures for all to see.
Billy and Rae moved back to Mount Vernon after his retirement and became involved with various organizations, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and working on the town square.
Rae is survived by three sons, Richard Harper (Gwen), David Harper (Janet Holmes), Michael Harper (Terri) and two daughters, Mary Troutman (Monte) and Patricia Catherine Armstrong. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Billy Harper, infant sons, Robert Leslie Harper and William Kelly Harper. The Harper family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at Morada Burleson and Journey Hospice who treated their mother with the utmost care and compassion. If desired, a memorial contribution in Rae’s memory may be made to a favorite charity.
Graveside services will be on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Father Selvan Melkias officiating.
Services entrusted to Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.
