Kay Howell

Nelda Kay “Johnson” Howell, age 81 of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on May 31, 2023. No formal services have been scheduled.

Kay was born to Arthur C. and Thelma Oneida “Hume” Johnson in Deport, Texas on October 22, 1941.

Her father operated a small grocery store and Kay would help with the stocking of the shelves. After graduation, she attended college and became a Court Reporter and worked in Washington DC as a federal court reporter.

Kay married Richard (Dick) Howell on November 26,1965 in Dallas, Texas, he preceded her in death.

She will be remembered for her skills as a seamstress, painter, writer, and musician. Kay was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Franklin County Historical Association, and the Franklin County Arts Alliance.
