L.C. Jones, 96 of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022.
The family will receive friends at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Winnsboro at 1:00 pm with David Taylor and Mike Gunn officiating. Interment will be at Providence Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Dustin Winthrop, Ricky Jones, Darrell Burton, Trystan Burton, Mike Gunn, and Russell Reed.
L.C. was born in Franklin County, Texas on June 2, 1926 to James T. and Edith (McLeod) Jones.
He joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946.
L.C. married Jeri Tutor on March 13, 1947 building 67 years of memories until her death, September 8, 2014. He married Carolyn Reed on March 4, 2017, she preceded him in death, December 26, 2020.
L.C. was licensed to preach in May 1952 and pastored churches in Prairie Grove, Victory, Dunn, Macon, Clearwater, Purley, Greenwood, Center Grove, Glade Springs, and Lake Cypress Springs. He led countless people to accept Christ in his years of ministry, even in his retirement years. Until this past year, one of his greatest joys was to circulate through the sanctuary shaking hands and greeting people on Sunday mornings.
L.C. was a founding charter member of South Franklin Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents; J.T. and Edith Jones, his first wife, Jeri and his second wife, Carolyn. His brothers; James Jones, Wayne Jones, Robbie Jones, half-brothers; Charlie Jones, Perry Jones, Cullis Jones, Ray Jones, and Frank Pierce. His sister; Ruth Neal, half-sisters; Eula Evers and Ona French.
He is survived by his children, Ann Johnson, Kathy Spence, Dale (Julie) Jones and Tammy (Larry) Winthrop. His step-children, Linda (Anthony) Hendrex, Russell (Danna) Reed and Ron Reed. His grandchildren, LeyeAnn Smith, Darrell Burton, Tina Meredith, Lisa Pedlar, Jason Darby, Robert Spence, Billy Don Spence, Donna Spence, Jason Jones, Rebecca Powell, Shane Wilson, Dustin Winthrop and Brandy Fernandez. Numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Sister, Janiece Elledge.
