Larry Don Pendergrass

Larry Don Pendergrass, age 81, of Scroggins, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Larry was born in Altus, OK to Harvey Ernest and Curtis Mae “England” Pendergrass on July 28, 1939.  He served in the US Air Force and was a graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology in Electronic Engineering.  For sixteen years, Larry worked extensively overseas in approximately 20 countries in Africa and Europe as an Instrument Engineer (Offshore Drilling and Seismic Operations) for Texas Instruments, Sedco and ADS Drilling Systems.  Larry also spent eighteen months in Egypt with General Dynamics in support of F-4 and F-16 facility operations where he received a Special Service Award from the 5th Special Forces Group Army Airborne.  For nine years, he transported patients and in 1996 was voted Employee of the Year at Presbyterian Hospital in Winnsboro.  He worked in sales for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company where he was assigned to the Kilgore office.  Larry concluded his diverse career as a driver for O’Reilly Auto Parts, under the supervision of Store Manager and friend, John Stone.  Larry enjoyed history, genealogical and Bible studies, woodworking, music and sound systems.  Larry humbly served the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon.

Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Glen Pendergrass and sister, Wilma June Lollis.  Survivors include his beloved companion, Ruth Shelton; nieces and nephews, Brenda (Tom) Dymond of York, PA, Ernie Pendergrass of Mesquite, TX,  Jaton (Paul) Kasprzyk of Mesquite, TX, Shane (Anahi) Pendergrass of Little Elm, TX, Charles Lollis of Altus, OK, Dwayne (Linda) Lollis of Iowa Park, TX, Diane Killian of Altus, OK, Clarissa (Marlon) Smith of Ada, OK, Sue Brendle of Ada, OK, Brian Pendergrass of Ada, OK;  cousins, Walter Lyons, Cynde Lyons, Wynn and Lynn Lyons; and numerous extended family and friends.

A come and go visitation will be at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 1:00 – 6:00 pm.  The funeral service will be on Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am with Bro. Pepper Puryear and James Scott officiating.  Pallbearers will be Ernie Pendergrass, Shane Pendergrass, Tom Dymond, Chris Pendergrass, Eric Liebel and Casey Liebel.  Interment will be at Providence Cemetery.
