Lavern Daryl “Butch” Meier, age 75, of Mount Vernon, Texas, born on May 27, 1947, in Lorenzo, Nebraska, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Butch grew up in Lorenzo, Nebraska on the family wheat farm. He graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1965 and went on to attend Northwestern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado majoring in Agri-Business. In 1967, rather than be drafted, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1967-1970. He served in Vietnam, stateside and Germany. Butch was a quiet, kind, and generous man with a quick sense of humor and loved by all who knew him.
He married Laura in 1971 and eventually went to work in the oil industry where he worked for 36 years until his retirement in 2011 and moved to their country home in Mount Vernon, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laura G. Meier; son, Jason and Brooke Meier; daughter, Laura K. Meier; grandchildren, Nicole, Ethan, Angelyka, Kaleb, and Alayna; sister, Karen Bivens; brother, Doug and Barb Meier; sister, Carolyn and Mike Parsons; sister-in-law, Margaret Meier; mother-in-law, Laura “Pat” Hamilton; brothers-in-law, Patrick and Madena Hamilton, Mike and Deanna Hamilton, Bill and Terri Hamilton, Ray and Donna Hamilton and Kelly and Annetta Hamilton. Many nieces and nephews.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Daryl Edward and Jean Katherine Meier; brother, Duane Dean Meier; brother-in-law, Ed Bivens; niece, Stephanie Meier.
Graveside service will be on April 22, 2023 at Fuquay Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Craig Clark officiating. Pallbearer will be Ethan Meier.
