Lillie Mae Gurley "Punkin" Lee passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 in Sulphur Springs, TX at the age of 81. She was born on December 15, 1938 in Clovis, NM to Bill and Lucille Gurley. She resided in Mount Vernon, TX.
Lillie married Richard Lee on April 24, 1959. "Punkin" graduated from the famous class of 1956 along with Dandy Don Meredith. Lil worked for Saltillo ISD driving a school bus, then worked for T. Ashley Knox Insurance (later Williams Insurance) and worked for Mount Vernon Optic Herald. On September 1, 1978 she was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Communication Operator until August 31, 1998. Until her declining years, Lil was very active in youth ministries in the church.
Lil was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lucille Gurley of Mount Vernon.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard Lee of Mount Vernon; daughter, Pam D. Jones of Mount Vernon; son, Richard "Rick" Lee Jr. (Venera) of McLean, VA; son, Scott Lee of Mount Vernon; daughter, Mary Catherine Alexander (Richard) of the Macon Community Franklin County, Texas. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Nelda Gurley of Saltillo, TX. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, Brannon Jones, Aaron Jones, Kayla Jones, Michael Lee (Rachel), Christi Clayton (Kyle), Brett Lee, Marisa Alexander, Emilee Alexander, Henry Lee and Rebecca Lee. Four great grandchildren, Braden Jones, Rylan Bell, Lincoln Clayton and Maikyn Clayton.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 12 noon until 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, TX with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating, followed by funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Graveside will be at Macon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brannon Jones, Aaron Jones, Michael Lee, Brett Lee, Kyle Clayton and Richard Alexander. Honorary Pallbearers: Henry Lee, Ricky Jones, Michael Baze, Brian Gurley and Blake Gurley.
