Lurline Tinsley Obituary

Lurline Tinsley, age 103, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on April 28, 2022 in Mount Vernon.

Lurline was born in the Prairie Grove Community of Franklin County, Texas to Isaac (Ike) Henninger and Sarah Abigail (Abbie) Banks Johnson.  After graduating from Mount Vernon High School at the age of 16, she married Ted Tinsley.

She was taught as a small child to be a hard worker – a work ethic she passed on to her children.  From childhood through early marriage, she worked in the fields.  When they eventually had a car, she sold Avon, sold tickets at the Joy Theater, sewed uniforms and other clothing, and then worked at the Glove Factory, where she picked up the nickname Lulu that followed her throughout her working years.

She ended her working life at Winzen Research in Sulphur Springs.  When in her eighties, she was named employee of the year, retiring at 87.

She and Ted traveled extensively throughout the United States.  After retirement, she traveled with family internationally – visiting Italy, Monaco, Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, Honduras, Beliz and many other places.  If she heard someone say “GO”, she was ready.

She was a long-time member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church and then of First Baptist Church, Mount Vernon.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Ted Tinsley, son Jerry Tinsley, daughter Judy Tinsley Harris and son-in-law Bill Harris, parents Isaac Henninger Johnson and Sarah Abigail Banks Johnson.  She is also predeceased by 6 siblings and 5 half-siblings.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Linda Tinsley of Mt. Vernon, grandson, Kevin Tinsley and wife, Lynne of Wylie; granddaughter, Krista Tinsley of Dallas; grandson, Brian Tinsley and wife, Karen of Dallas; great grandchildren, Lyric (Michael) Hunter of Richardson, Morgan Tinsley of McKinney, Andrew Tinsley of Houston, and Allison (Matthew) Fuller of Waco; Mount Vernon nephew, Cecil Solomon and niece, Shirley Johnson and numerous extended family members who will miss her dearly.
