Marilyn Kay Dunlap, age 63, of Rockwall, Texas passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 in Mount Vernon, Texas.
A Come and Go Visitation will be Friday, July 17, 2020 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. Funeral service will be on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 12:30 P.M. at the Denton Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas. Interment will follow the funeral service at Denton Cemetery. Pastor D. White and W. G. Lacy will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Ryan Bozeman, Tom Dunlap, Dirk McMillian, Brandon Mayberry, Bernard Robinson, Mickel Hobbs. Honorary Pallbearers, Chip Dunlap, Harry Washington, Morris Mayberry, Hubert Robinson, Elvin Hobbs, Donald Washington, Larry Dunlap, and Clarence (Bubba) Powdrell.
Marilyn was born on May 12, 1957 to Bennie and Connie (Bozeman) Dunlap in Mount Vernon, Texas.
Marilyn was an Educator and taught school for 37 years, mainly in the Dallas ISD. She recently retired and was staying with her mother in Mount Vernon. Marilyn was a tenacious and devoted high school counselor at Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy. She helped the students with their schedules, college applications, end of the year senior adventures, and anything else the students needed assistance with she helped them. Marilyn wrote many recommendations on behalf of her students. She was a mentor to many scholars, who often guided students on how to fill out applications, how to carry oneself, and how to be a successful scholar throughout their collegiate careers. She was also selected as the Teacher of the Year. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a member of the North East Texas Beef Organization. Marilyn was an Elder at the Potter’s House Church in Dallas, TX. She served in several ministries and was a faithful servant of the Lord.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Dunlap.
She is survived by her mother, Connie Dunlap of Mount Vernon, TX; brother, Marshall E. (Bo) Dunlap of Como, TX.
