Mary Kathryn Overton

Mary Kathryn Overton, age 79 of Tyler, Texas passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024.

Mary was born to Albert and Everdeen Sunshine (Leathers) Overton in Amarillo, Texas on July 2, 1944.

She attended Mount Vernon schools for her primary education with further education at Paris Junior College, BS of Science at Texas A & M University at Canyon, and Master of Education at Texas A & M University at Commerce.

She taught in both elementary and high schools in East Texas for many years with her last years being at Van and Wills Point High Schools. She set up the first credit recovery computer lab at Van, helping struggling high school students to be qualified to graduate. Mary retired in 2007.

Graveside services is scheduled for May 8, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jim Welch officiating; she will be buried next to her parent’s in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
