Mildred Louise (Hood) Smith, age 96, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on February 16, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Mildred was born in Russellville, Arkansas, to Elmer L. and Elizabeth Louise (Almond) Hood on May 8,1929.
She married Paul Frank Smith on December 21, 1951, in Russellville, Arkansas.
Mildred devoted much of her life to serving others. She volunteered with a hospice organization in Russellville, Arkansas, where her compassion and dedication earned her recognition as Volunteer of the Year. She faithfully served as Treasurer of First Christian Church and found great joy in singing in the church choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Paul Frank Smith; her father, Elmer L. Hood; her mother, Louise Elizabeth Lamb; siblings, James Hood, Paul Hood, Una Hankins, Hazel Johnson and Doyle Hood.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Karol Whitehurst; granddaughters, Ashley (Jay) Jetton, Lindsey (Richard) Rodgers; great grandchildren, Cody (Kendall) Jetton, Jordan Jetton, Kaiden Rodgers, Trinity Rodgers; great-great-grandchildren, Jace Jetton; sisters, Opal (Mel) Powell , Sue Humphrey; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mildred will be laid to rest next to her husband, Paul at Resthaven Cemetery in Russellville, Arkansas. Graveside service is scheduled for February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
