Nyla Renee (Byrd) Lindsay

Nyla Renee (Byrd) Lindsay, age 68, of Gardnerville, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at her residence.

Nyla was born to C.T. and Yvonne Byrd on December 23,1956, in Naples, Texas.  Nyla grew up in Mount Vernon, Texas.  She graduated from MVHS in 1975.  Nyla was active in school activities, played the flute in the band, and worked part-time at a dress shop.  She was also a member and involved in First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon.  After graduating from high school, Nyla was a dental assistant for Dr. Piefer.   In December 1979, Nyla married Larry (Rocky) Emerson.  They had a daughter, Meredith Yvonne, born in November 1980.  Nyla and Rocky owned several Grandma’s Fried Chicken restaurants in North Texas before moving to Alaska.   Nyla relocated from Alaska to Nevada in 1992.   Nyla worked in Public Relations for United Blood Services for several years.  Nyla married James (Jamie) Lindsay in 2005.  Nyla and Jamie lived together in Sparks, Nevada for 20 years before moving to Gardnerville in the summer of 2025.   Nyla passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Nyla was preceded in death by parents, C.T. and Yvonne Byrd; brother, Steven Byrd, and Larry (Rocky) Emerson.

Nyla is survived by her husband, Jamie Lindsay; daughter, Meredith (Dave) Eaton; brother, Mark (Barbara) Byrd; grandsons, Zac and Kyle; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, Nyla is survived by very close friends/neighbors, Peggy and Ron Thibodeau.       

Nyla was a free spirit, a “farm girl” and helped raise the cows, was meticulous about her yard and she loved her dogs.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Mount Vernon City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or charity of your choice.
