Peggy Jean Pickens

Peggy Jean Pickens, age 96, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Peggy was born on September 30, 1928, in Leesburg, Texas, to R.A. and Florence (Garrett) Watts. She married JC Pickens on October 18, 1946, and together, they shared a lifetime of love, dedication, and cherished memories. Peggy was always helping JC with whatever project was at hand. She was a devoted homemaker and an educator. Peggy taught at Chapel Hill and Harts Bluff ISD. She was deeply passionate about her family, her home, and the beauty of nature. Peggy found joy working in her yard, gardening, and canning the fruits of her labor. Peggy always had pickles ready for her family. She loved reading books to the grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Peggy had a  true love for the outdoors, she also enjoyed watching birds and taking in the simple wonders of nature. She was a member of Macon Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, JC Pickens; and her brother, RA Watts.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, sons, Joe and Joyce Pickens, Randy and Deanna Pickens; daughter, Susan and James Buck; grandchildren, Chad and Kristy Pickens, Scott and Heather Pickens, Mark and Katy Pickens, Travis and Valerie Pickens, Hayley and Dustin Dickson, Cassie and Shane Gammill, Colter Buck, Zachary and Jesi Buck; great grandchildren, Jadyn, Kyndall, Connor, Jack, Natalie, Avery, Carter, Randi, Laine, Spencer, Case, Ellie, and Jay. and sister, Janet and Ron Eve.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Macon Baptist Church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Kevin Little officiating. Pallbearers will be Chad Pickens, Scott Pickens, Mark Pickens, Travis Pickens, Colter Buck, and Zachary Buck. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dustin Dickson and Shane Gammill. Interment will follow at Rockhill Cemetery.
