RM Harper, age 92, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Mount Vernon.
A come and go visitation will be on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home from 1:00 – 6:00 pm. A Graveside service will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 2:00 at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Glen Martin officiating. Pallbearers are Les Owens, Chad Harper, Colin Harper, Gage Martinez, Jackson Harper and Mac Harper. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Griffith, Jay Phillips, Tommy Phillips and Mark Hare and John Underwood.
RM was born to Leslie S. and Zadie Murphy Harper on June 21, 1928 in Sulphur Bluff, Texas. He married Betty Jane Roddam Harper on September 2, 1950 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He was a rancher/farmer.
He served on the Franklin County Child Welfare Board and was on the Franklin County School Board when they voted to consolidate all the small schools into the Mt. Vernon School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Jane Harper; twin sisters, Iva and Viva Harper; brother, Shelby Harper; sister, Ruth Martin.
RM is survived by his sons, Richard M. Harper and wife Sharon of Franklin County, Texas, Jimmy Dan and wife Sue Ann of Sulphur Bluff, Texas, Alex Niles Harper and wife Amanda of Mt. Vernon, Texas; daughters, Sally Harper Causey of Saltillo, Texas and Betty Jo Halbert and husband Heath of McKinney, Texas; brother, Jerry Harper of Bonham, Texas. Eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
