Richard Henry Lee passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 in Winnsboro, Texas at the age of 88.
Richard was born on August 26, 1932 in Titus County near the Macon Community. He was the son of Walter Henry Lee and Catherine Mitchell Lee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lillie Mae Lee, who passed away on June 27, 2020.
Richard is survived by his four children; daughter, Pam Jones of Mount Vernon, TX; son, Richard (Rick) Lee, Jr. and wife, Venera of McLean, VA; son, Scott Lee of Mount Vernon, TX; daughter, Mary Catherine Alexander and husband, Richard of the Macon Community in Franklin County. He is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Gill of Baytown and Joyce Slaten of Stephenville, TX. 10 grandchildren, Brannon Jones, Aaron Jones, Kayla Jones, Michael Lee and wife, Rachel, Christi Clayton and husband, Kyle, Brett Lee, Marissa Alexander, Emilee Alexander, Henry Lee and Rebecca Lee. 4 great grandchildren, Braden Jones, Rylan Bell, Lincoln Clayton and Maikyn Clayton.
Richard graduated high school in 1949 from Mount Vernon High School and attended East Texas State College in Commerce, Texas where he attained a masters degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Richard was a retired Vocational Agriculture Teacher. He taught in Slaton, Texas, Miller Grove, Colorado City, Saltillo, and then Big Sandy where he retired. He retired to the Macon Community where he was a peach farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and a member of the Mount Vernon Masonic lodge. He was also a volunteer for the Franklin County Food Bank.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Texas followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating. Pallbearers will be Brannon Jones, Aaron Jones, Michael Lee, Kelly Stretcher, Kyle Clayton, and Richard Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Lee, Henry Lee, Rebecca Lee, Ricky Jones, Michael Baze, Brian Gurley, Blake Gurley and the Mount Vernon Masons. Interment will be at Macon Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Franklin County Food Bank.
