Funeral services for Dr. Robbie Gerald Davis, age 89 of Mt. Vernon, Texas will be September 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sam Harvey Funeral Home with burial following in the Purley Cemetery. The visitation is Friday, September 5th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Harvey's Funeral Home.
Robbie was born August 15, 1936, to Coy Roosevelt and Seple Corley Davis. He married Chloanne Cole, and they had one daughter, Annette.
Robbie graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1954. After receiving his bachelors degree in psychology from Baylor University, he graduated with masters degrees from both Texas Christian University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.
After high school graduation, Robbie began working for an oil and gas consulting firm, DeGolyer & MacNaughton, in Dallas. While obtaining both masters degrees in Ft. Worth, he worked as the manager of a family shoe store. He was a Counselor and Psychometrician for Texas Christian University before moving to San Antonio. During the time he was studying on his doctorate degree at the University of North Texas, he was a play therapist, working with children who had behavioral problems. Also, he was a Senior Researcher for the Dallas ISD for several years. Later as a Clinical Psychologist, he began helping juvenile delinquents at the Brownwood State School. Dr. Davis was professor of psychology at colleges in San Antonio and Lufkin.
Robbie placed a high priority on education and conducted Seminars on group therapy throughout Texas to help Licensed Professional Counselors reach their required hours for proficiency. He also led professional workshops in the Lufkin area. Additionally, he financially assisted Franklin County high school graduates in enrollment to Baylor University through an Endowment Fund. He had several articles published in Professional Journals to share his expertise with other like-minded professionals.
Robbie thoroughly enjoyed tennis, traveling, and reading biographies of sports figures and politicians. He also enjoyed surfing the internet and reading financial newspapers and investment magazines. His most recent entertainment came from listening to Southern Gospel and Celtic music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Billy M. Davis, and brother-in-law, Gene D. Harrod. He is survived by his wife Chloanne, daughter Annette, and her husband Joel Abt; sister Edna; sister Linda and husband Jack Williams; sister-in-law Dorotha Davis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ed and Sonja Cole, and Terry and Carolyn Western; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
