Robert Keith Burns, born on March 31, 1938, in Mount Vernon, Texas, to Valton and Vera Sue Orren Burns, passed away on May 14, 2024, at the age of 86. A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Robert graduated from Mississippi State University and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a surveyor before retiring. He had a passion for collecting antiques, storytelling, playing poker, and savoring good whiskey.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Martha Burns; his second wife, Stacey Basham; his son, Ira Lee Burns; his sisters, Patricia Burns and Sue Janell Wright; and his brother, Walter Allen Burns.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Barlow, Virginia Bracato, Deborah Bogan, Patricia Burns, Laura (Robert) Durst, Sandra Burns, and Melissa (John) Cillo; his sons, John Burns, Robert (Ella) Burns, William Burns, Charles (Heather) Burns, Victor (Kaitlin) Burns, Michael (Jordan) Basham, and Daniel (Sarah) Basham; and his brothers, Duane Burns, Steve Burns, and Orren Burns. Robert was the grandfather of 32 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation memorial for Robert will be held at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home on June 22nd at 11am. Interment will follow at Stout’s Creek Cemetery. Special thanks to the family at Sunrise Nursing Home of Baton Rouge for their care and support over the past six months.
