Roger Glynn Minshew, age 95, of Scroggins, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2023 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Glynn was born on September 4, 1927 on the family farm in southern Franklin County to Lewis Emmitt Minshew and Ida Essie Roberson Minshew. His family settled in the area in 1918. He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School where he played sports but he especially loved basketball. He was an avid 42 player and spent many hours playing with friends. Glynn was a big fan of the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys.
He had two children, Patti Minshew Duke and Roger Keith Minshew, from his first marriage to Dorothy Braudaway. After helping run the family dairy for many years in Scroggins, they relocated to East Bernard in South Texas for 8 years where he worked for Getty Oil. Once they moved back to Winnsboro, TX, he owned and operated South Franklin Grocery in Scroggins, TX for many years and ran the family dairy and chicken house businesses.
Glynn is survived by his daughter, Patti Duke and husband Michael of Scroggins, TX, and four grandchildren, Resia Lawrence and husband Matt of Corinth, TX, Alyssa Burton and husband Jason of Scroggins, TX, Kevin Minshew and wife Ashli of Longview, TX, and Aedan Duke of Scroggins, TX. Glynn is remembered with love by his seven great-grandchildren, Jenna Lawrence, Taylor Lawrence, Addison Minshew, Grayson Minshew, Emerson Minshew, Ronan Burton, and Audria Burton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maydell Minshew; his son, Keith Minshew; his sister, Ruth Baxter and brother, Orville Minshew.
Graveside services will be on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery with Pepper Puryear officiating.
