Sharon Mars Obituary

Sharon Marie Young Mars, loving mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026, after an amazingly courageous fight with metastatic breast cancer.

Sharon was born August 1, 1962, in San Mateo, California, to Kenneth Boyd Young and Ruby Lee Martin Young.

Sharon and her family moved to Winfield, Texas, in December 1967, where Sharon started first grade at Winfield ISD in 1968, and graduated as Valedictorian of her 8th grade class. She was a 1980 top ten graduate of Mount Vernon High School and a 1984 Baylor Bear graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with a BBA Degree and a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She received her master's degree from Texas A & M University in Commerce and taught junior high math at Paul Pewitt CISD and supported her beloved Brahmas until her health problems forced her to unwillingly retire during her 35th year of teaching. She loved her kids and missed them immensely. She also worked part-time at Brookshires in Mount Vernon, Texas, where she enjoyed keeping up with her customers and friends.

She married Christopher Carroll Mars on June 30th, 1990, and although her wedded bliss did not work out, they have remained friends and on March 28, 1995, Sharon was able to meet the absolute love and joy of her life, her precious son, Zachry Daniel Mars, and built her entire world around him. Everyone knows Zach is her most prized accomplishment and all her love, pride, and effort was put into raising him. Sharon has always been the perfect testament of what a truly Godly woman is.... A wonderfully loving mother, a caring friend whom if you entrusted a secret in confidence with, she listened lovingly and guarded it with her heart and all her might, a non-judgmental person who never met a stranger, a hard worker for all her employers, and a patient, compassionate teacher for her kids. She was a shining light and breath of fresh air to her friends and anyone who had the honor of knowing and loving her.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Ruby Young; paternal grandparents, Vester and Florence Myrtle Young and maternal grandparents, William and Nettie Martin; infant brother, Seldon Glen Young; and brother-in-law Jack Phillips.

She is survived by her precious son whom she cherished dearly, Zachry Daniel Mars of Mount Vernon, TX; loving brother, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Wayne Young and wife, Karen of Edmond, OK; beloved sister and caretaker, Beverley Joyce Young Nelson of Mount Pleasant, TX; nieces and nephews, Sara Chown and Lieutenant Colonel Ben Chown of Edmond, OK, Jay and Jamie Nelson of Houston, TX, Michael and Carolyn Young of Evanston, IL, Kylie Marie and Jeremy Collier of Mount Pleasant, TX, Laci Alvarez and Luis and children of Scroggins, TX, Chantz Jeter and Reagan and children of Caddo Mills, TX; great nieces and nephews Kenley Ray Collier, Emma Chown, Austin Chown, Conor Young, Iain Young, and Emmet Young, special lifetime loving sister/ friend Shari Christenberry and husband, Rocky of Mount Vernon, TX and childhood sister friends, Donna Mars Jeter and Sherry Jo Mars, father of her son, Chris Mars and Zach's bonus mother, Stacy Mars, Jason Mars and his children, as well as numerous beloved cousins, friends, and loved ones.
