Shirley Ann Johnson, age 86, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022 in Tyler, Texas.
Shirley was born on November 18, 1935 in Mount Vernon, Texas to Jack Royal Johnson and Jennie O. (Banks) Johnson.
Shirley spent her early years in the Prairie Grove community in Franklin County. In her working years, she worked in Mount Vernon at the Glove Factory, M. L. Edwards department store, and was elected for multiple terms as Franklin County’s Tax Assessor / Collector. She was a member of the Church of Christ church in Mount Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Nell Johnson, as well as Mount Vernon cousins, Jerry Tinsley and Judy Harris. Shirley is survived by cousins, Cecil Solomon and Linda Tinsley of Mount Vernon, as well as a number of other cousins and many good friends.
After the death of her parents, Shirley spent many years as devoted caregiver for her sister, Linda Nell. She enjoyed arts and crafts and the company of her cat, Gracie.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. with Preston McElyea officiating. Pallbearers will be Tracy Johnson, Cecil Solomon, Brian Tinsley, Kevin Tinsley, David Bankston and Jim Emery. Interment will be at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
