Susan McGee Obituary

Susan Elizabeth Fischer McGee was born December 23, 1945, the second of two children and the only daughter of Victor and Dorothy (Howe) Fischer in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. She went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 26, 2022, from Greenhill Villa in Mt. Pleasant,Texas at the age of 76.

She was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. There Susan earned a B.A. degree in psychology in the early 1960's. While at the university, Susan became a member of the Delta Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority started there in 1963.

Her vocation for 28 years was as a hands-on supervisor of the State of Louisiana Child Support Division officed in New Orleans. Susan was known for accompanying police officers into less desirable neighborhoods to pick up dead-beat parents armed with her own gun and badge. She helped to teach others in division shooting skills, too.

Susan's life was filled with love of music and the arts, family and friends, and work through which she helped others. She fell in love with ballet taking lessons as a young girl. Accomplished at the dance as a teen, Susan was selected to perform for a time as a member of the Tulsa Ballet Corps, supportive dancers for the feature performers.

Susan took art lessons in the mid-1980s and found another talent at which she excelled. Always having a special attraction to our 4-pawed friends, she settled into a niche painting oil and pastel pet portraits. She also did several large portraits of popular celebrities for their fans.

As a youth Susan learned to play the piano, a skill later required from her by her college sorority. As an adult, Susan used that skill to play classical hymns as she and her husband practiced pieces they were to perform as part of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana's Cathedral Choir in New Orleans, Louisiana. She had joined the choir eight years before meeting Ken. The couple would find focus volunteering with the choir for another 12 years.

Susan met the love of her life, Kenneth Ray McGee, in April 1989. They struck an instant bond with their love of music and the arts. They were married October 28, 1995. The coming years would find them at concerts, operas, and sharing time sampling the local cuisine with like-minded friends.

That phase of their lives ended August 2005, with Hurricane Katrina. In July 2007, they purchased and moved into a home in the Tall Tree development and found a new circle of friends. Susan broke her hips in two separate falls, and they both moved into assisted living in 2020.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Ken McGee of Mount Vernon, and her brother, Benjamin (Ben) Fischer of Dallas. The family thanks the administration and staff at both Mount Vernon House and The Greenhill Villa for their care given Susan in her last year.
