Virginia Nell (Veasey) Joyner, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away at the age of 78, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Tyler, Texas.
Virginia was born to Coy and Jessie (Newberry) Veasey on September 26, 1946, in Franklin County, Texas.
She grew up in the Hopewell Community attending Macon Baptist Church. Her passion for music began there. Traditional church hymns and classic country songs meant the world to her. She could strum a guitar and fill the room with the warmth of her voice.
At an early age, she developed a love for horses. She rode on the farm to work cattle, participated in play days for competition, and won many rodeo royalty titles in the east Texas area.
Also, a talented seamstress, Virginia was a natural at sewing. She could transform a piece of cloth into a dress, pants, curtains, or school costume. Most of her sewing was out of necessity, but yet rewarding.
Virginia attended school in Mt. Vernon. She was a cheerleader for the Tiger teams, participated in many clubs and was selected for several honors by her classmates.
On May 28, 1965, she married the love of her life, Tommy Lynn “Shorty” Joyner. They immediately moved to Memphis, TN for jobs. While in Tennessee, the young couple built lasting friendships that have endured 60 years. On November 27, 1965, their only child, Jennifer, was born. In 1973, plans were made to return to Texas and get back “home”.
In 1974, Shorty and Virginia built their home in the Cypress Community in Franklin County, TX. They touched every part of the construction, from foundation to roof. Even while working various jobs during the 70’s and 80’s, Virginia always made time for family and friends. Their small home was always open to visitors. Easter Egg hunts, softball games, Christmas caroling, hayrides and lots of music & laughter. Virginia enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories. She had a gift for making the past come alive through the memories she shared.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Shorty Joyner; parents, Coy and Jessie Veasey; and her brothers, Harlin Veasey and Vannoy Veasey.
Survivors include her daughter and her spouse, Jennifer and Mark Easley; grandchildren and their spouses, Jack and Kinley Easley, Dustin and Deidre Easley; great grandson, Noah Easley; great granddaughter, Kaia Easley; and a very special furry companion, Mister T; nieces, nephews; Mike Veasey, Melinda Veasey Fancher; Rusty Veasey, Cindy Veasey & Randall Veasey; and extended family.
