Wesley (Dee) David Wafford

Wesley David (Dee) Wafford, age 83, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.

The Wafford Family will be encouraging social distancing at the visitation and the funeral service.  Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00-8:00 P.M.  Funeral Services will be on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Lake Chapel House of Prayer at 2:00 P.M. with Gerald Hood officiating. Interment will be at Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Wafford, Nathan Wafford, Jonathan Wafford, Landon Wafford, Carson Wafford, and Bradon Wafford.  Honorary Pallbearers are Shaun Suttles and Travis Lake.

Dee was born on September 29, 1936 in Mount Vernon, Texas to Oscar David Wafford and Janie Owens Wafford.  He married Lilly Faye Woods on December 20, 1957.

Dee worked hard at everything he did.  He worked in the oil field for 10 years and at Dorchester Refinery for 17 years.  He operated a dairy farm for 16 years.  Dee owned and operated Mt. Vernon tire shop with his family for 20 years.  He would continue to go to the tire shop for the latest news and current events and to make sure everyone was working. He was strong in his beliefs and convictions. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the Dairy Bar and other local restaurants.  His greatest accomplishment was his family.  He enjoyed sitting and visiting with each grandchild and being a Papaw to them all.  He was a loving caregiver to Lilly.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Wafford; sisters, Pat Kelly, Dot Byrd.

Dee is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lilly Wafford; sons and their wives, Mike and Patti Wafford of Mount Vernon, TX; Steve and Connie Wafford of Mount Vernon, TX; Randy and Amy Wafford of Mount Vernon, TX; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Bo Wafford of Mount Vernon, TX; sister, Wanda Inman of Garland, TX.
