William Rudasill Bane

William (“Willie”) Rudasill Bane, age 84, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Tyler, Texas.

Willie was born to Edward Reed and Thyra Bane on April 30, 1936 in Brownwood, Texas and married Mary Rogers on August 9, 1958 in Dallas, Texas.  Willie worked as an accountant for several saving and loans institutions, but his favorite job was as an usher for the Texas Rangers which gave him the pleasure to attend every home game.

He is preceded in death by his parents and older brother Edward.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Bane of Mount Vernon, Texas; sons, Toby Bane and wife Georgina and grandchildren Sarah, Andrew, Sophie and Abigail of Grand Prairie, Texas; Edward Bane and wife JanaBeth and grandchildren Madelyn and Hanson, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Leslie Degan and husband Mark and grandsons Christopher and Collin of Plano, Texas; sister, Dr. Louisa Leslie of Ellicott City, Maryland. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Willie was very active in city and county affairs serving on several boards. In 2012, he was elected Man of the Year by the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce. His love of the Lord was reflected in his work on the church board at First United Methodist Church, volunteering at the Food Bank where he served on the board as well.  Willie will always be remembered for his passion for helping people and love of telling a good joke.

There will be a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas at a future date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon or the Food Bank of Franklin County.
